Way to Bring in the New Year!!
So New Years Day we were at my parents enjoying some finger food and watching some football. About an hour or so after Vance was done enjoying his food he started to feel pretty sick. So we went home and he laid in bed for a bit. He started to feel better and we decided to continue with our dinner plans. We went to the Olive Garden with the Dillon's and Vance started to feel sick again. When we got home Vance bolted for the bedroom and spent the entire night in and out of the bathroom. Finally at about midnight he called the on call doctor. After explaining his symptoms the doctor had him jump up and down? (Don't ask) Vance told the doctor it didn't really do much. I qoute "Well buddy doesn't sound like appendicitic, so looks like you are going to have tough this one out." Vance was like oh ok!!!The rest of the night was the same thing no sleep and a lot of Pepto and Maalox.
In the morning he was done and called our regular doctor. Our doctor is a guy in my parents ward and was able to squeeze him in during lunch. He went and saw Dr. Wellock and came to the conclusion that is might be appendicitis!!! Wow, so he was ordered to go the hospital and get an ultrasound and blood taken.
I called the sitter and told her we should only be an hour!!! Well after and hour and a half of waiting we finally got the ultrasound. The Radiologist came in and said "Well looks like you'll be staying here tonight and going to the OR." Vance would be heading into surgery!! Lovely!! Of course after another hour of waiting they wheeled him up to his room. The IV specialist came in and attempted several times to get the IV in him. 4 pokes later she decided she should get someone else?!?! huummmmm you think? Anyway due to lack of food and water Vance as extremely dehydrated and cold. This made it very difficult to get an IV in him, but to our surprise the next guy had much more success!!
Well he went into surgery at about 8 pm and finally returned to the room about 10:45 pm. First thing out of his mouth was "OH my gosh I feel so much better."!!!
I had talked to the surgeon and he said it went very well, but he had a VERY sick appendix and it would have burst within the next six hours. I'm glad Vance didn't try and "Tough this one out"!! Now he is hanging out in the hospital enjoying the absence of noisy children.
This is our exciting adventure for the New Year!! Hopefully we are good for awhile with surprises!
